Marcy Averill

In 2022, Carleton received a Social Science Research Council grant to support Indigenous Studies, resulting in the hiring of a permanent Indigenous Communities Liaison. Marcy Averill joined Carleton in that role in September 2022.

Part of the Center for Community and Civic Engagement (CCCE), the Indigenous communities liaison strengthens the College’s ability to:

  • Enact our land acknowledgement commitments
  • Partner with tribal governments and Native organizations
  • Promote the well-being of Native members of the campus community

Such efforts include, among others, building better relations with Native Nations — especially the two located within 30 miles of Carleton’s campus — and improving how Carleton engages with Native peoples and Native-related issues on campus.
